It took some planning and a cancelled day but at last the Scuba Santas had a chance to break their own world record of 158 santas in the water at one time.
More than 200 divers registered for the attempt with the hope of raising £15,000 (or more) for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) after raising £10,000 in 2009. You can donate to them by clicking here.
After the heavy snow in December which postponed the attempt it eventually got underway on the 9th January 2011 at Vobster Quay, Upper Vobster, near Mells in Somerset.
Event organiser Lloyd Watkin, of the Yorkshire Divers Group, said: “We were really disappointed to have to cancel the dive in December, but the weather really got the better of us.”
Unfortuanatly with a large bout of colds and flues to hit everyone in the UK it seemed, not all 207 registered divers could make it and the total count for brave Santasto enter the 6degree waters was 142.
That is a shortfall of only 27 divers of their succsessfull attempt in 2009.
