What seems like a very long time ago Nikon had one of the best ranges of underwater cameras in their Nikonos range of cameras. Today however there is actually no such thing as a Nikon underwater camera but this doesn’t mean that you can’t take your much loved Nikon on your dives or even snorkeling. There are a range of underwater camera housings that will fit most of the compact Nikon cameras as well as the digital SLR’s they have to offer. Unfortunately however there is no such thing sold as an Nikon undertwaer camera set and you will more than likely have to visit two shops or underwater cameras sources to get your Nikon camera underwater.

If you don’t want to look about for a housing that fits your camera you would be better to consider some on the Canon underwater camera kits or Fuji underwater camera kits where there is a more easier option to buy the camera and the underwater case to go with it all in one package deal. The main benefit to buy underwater compact cameras like this would be the cost. Buying an underwater housing that fits your Nikon compact camera may in fact be more expensive than the actual camera itself.
Housings For Nikon Underwater Cameras
Ikelite have a great range of underwater housings to fit many of the Coolpix range of Nikon cameras. For example the Nikon Coolpix S220 is a very popular digital camera that people lovely due to its small size and lightweight as well as the lightweight price, costing a little over £50. However the Ikelite underwater housing to fit this camera cost over £200, OUCH! That is a bit steep when you have tried to save money on the actual camera only to pay through the nose for an underwater housing. I’m not knocking Ikelite underwater digital cameras systems, far from it, I believe these are some of the best housings on the market. But if you want to take images underwater then you really do have to do your research into what type of underwater pictures you want, what would be the best camera to take these images and how much will the whole underwater package cost you.
Not widely available in the UK there is an other company that can supply housings to make Nikon underwater cameras, Fantasea compact housings are a lot more economical that the Ikelites mentioned above but you should remember that these housings are designed for the American market cameras that sometimes have different model names or numbers. If you do intend to look at saving money on buying underwater camera housings them make sure you have matched up your UK Nikon camera with it’s USA counterpart before buying the Fantasea underwater housing.
